Although the term psychological tests is quite broad, there are actually a variety of categories that fall within this broad term. The categories of psychological tests that you could potentially encounter are:
Achievement and Aptitude Tests: Whether its a math test in school or a skill tests at your job, achievement and aptitude tests are used to measure the amount of knowledge you have acquired on one or more subjects. While an achievement or aptitude test can be on one very specific subject, they can also be on a variety of subjects that are related to each other.
Intelligence Tests: While achievement and aptitude tests are used to determine how much knowledge you have learned, intelligence tests are used to determine how capable you are of applying your basic understanding of the world in a manner that will allow you to increase your overall quality of life.
Neuropsychological Tests: If someone goes through a traumatic injury that may have caused brain damage, these types of psychological tests are used to determine the extent of damage that has taken place.
Occupational Tests: Not to be confused with achievement and aptitude tests, occupational tests are used to help people figure out what kind of careers would provide them with a high level of satisfaction based on their existing interests.
Personality Tests: This type of psychological test can simply be used to determine what kind of personality someone has. However, in many cases, it is actually used by professionals to help make clinical diagnoses about someone’s personality.
While it is a broader category than the rest on this list, there are also specific clinical tests that are used to diagnose or measure specific clinical matters.
